This drawing is a study for the head of the figure of Saint Carlo Borromeo in the High Altarpiece of the Church of S. Carlo al Corso, Rome, which represents Saint Carlo presented to the Virgin and Child, and was painted in 1658–1690 on the commission of Cardinal Omodei. A sketch for the whole composition of the altarpiece is in the Louvre, Paris.
