This painting shows an interior scene with a plate, jug and flowers on a coloured table, a standard lamp and a mirror, in which the reflection of woman can be seen. Williams was born in Lincoln in 1962 and studied at the Gloucestershire School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. She is a painter with a firm belief in the traditions of the artist's craft – good drawing, observation and a sound understanding of tonal values and colour. Ken Howard has said of her, 'Jackie's work is in the mainstream tradition of British painting in the twentieth century, from Camden Town and Euston Road School through new English painters such as Walter Sickert and Philip Wilson Steer; a worthy follower of the greatest of English women painters'. She is best known for her large interiors and outdoor landscapes.
