Peter Blake is the best known artist of the 1960s Pop Art movement. Many homes have an example of his work in the Beatles' 'Sergeant Pepper' album, for which he designed the cover. 'The Owl and the Pussycat' was painted to fit its Art Nouveau embossed copper frame, of about 1900, and Blake's pea-green boat echoes the design of the one on the frame. The beginning of Edward Lear's nursery rhyme is illustrated and includes the jar of honey and the money wrapped in a five pound note.
