Theatre producer known for her visionary and daring productions. After RADA she embarked on an acting career, most memorably as Lady Macbeth in a 1969 avant-garde production. She co-founded the Open Space Theatre in 1965 and from 1977–1983 she was Artistic Director of the Round House. At the National Theatre in the '80s she produced a critically acclaimed international programme. In 1990 she formed Thelma Holt Ltd; notable productions include the Redgraves in The Three Sisters (1990) and Janet McTeer in A Doll's House (1996). She recently co-produced Musashi the Barbican (2010). Thelma Holt is depicted seated in her office in the heart of the London theatre world. The portrait is the result of numerous sittings, which took place over a four month period.
