A sculpture entitled 'Three Principles', showing three musicians of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra by Frank Whittington, the New Forest based wood carver. The work consists of three small figures, two male and a female, arranged playing their musical instruments. The female musician (Edi Marr) sits at a large black grand piano, while the two men are seated with their violin (Bertram Lewis) and cello (Samuel Clifford), facing a music stand. An accompanying label reads 'The Musicians. Bertram Lewis; violin. Samuel Clifford; cello. Edie Marr; piano. Woodcarving by Frank Wittington. Presented by Edie Marr.' Edi Marr's real name was Mary Heath-Stubbs and her son was John Heath-Stubbs OBE, the partially sighted poet. John Heath-Stubbs gave a number of poetry recitals at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
