This artwork celebrates some of the objects in the museum. At its base is one of the museum's most loved specimens, a Russian brown bear nicknamed Boris, shot in 1901 by Dr John Salter, a GP from Tolleshunt. Above is a representation of one of the most popular exhibits, the living observation beehive. Above that is Grayson Perry's pot. Perry grew up in Chelmsford and the pot tells a made-up story from the English Civil War about the origins of the name 'Sissy’. Above the pot is a seventh-century Saxon circular pendant, made from gold and garnets, found by a metal detectorist in the Hanningfields. Topping the totem is the Eagle, a French regimental standard captured at the Battle of Salamanca in 1812 by the Essex Regiment.
