Figures are gathered round a stone fountain in a town square. The octagonal fountain is on a raised dais, surrounded by iron railings. There are stone lions spouting water, and three stone steps lead down to the ground. On the left, a man in a light jacket and striped trousers leans against the railings. Three men are squatting near to the fountain; they are all dressed in dark clothes, and two of them smoke. On the steps sit four men, two of whom are smoking, and dressed in shirtsleeves and hats. One wears a dark jacket and sandals. Another man, on the right leans against the railings. Nearby are a woman and a Roman Catholic priest. In the background n the right are some three-storey buildings.
