A gathering of people in their Sunday best, assembled by the river near the Wilford Ferry. On the near bank in the foreground are ladies, gentlemen, children and dogs. Some are seated on the grass, with a napkin full of cherries spread before them. There is a vendor weighing the fruit from a large basket. To the right of the scene is a man on a large brown horse; next to him are two large collie dogs. On the right is also a small brick ferryhouse. The ferryman can be seen turning the handle to send the ferry to the other bank. The river flows from left to right, with a ferry-load of people making the crossing. A dog swims the river, carrying a stick in its mouth. A crowd awaits on the opposite bank; behind them, in the distance, are houses. In the centre of the picture on the far bank, behind a small group of trees, is Wilford Church.
