This work may have been based on one of Josefina de Vasconcellos’ sketches of William Wordsworth showing him as a visionary young man, resting his head in his hand. De Vasconcellos saw herself as working very much within the Wordsworthian tradition. She felt 'from the first I have been a simple communicator using plain form as Wordsworth used plain words... but over the years, mystery has increased, like changes of weather over the Fells.’
