The wreck of the Cypriot freighter 'Prosperity' off the west coast of Guernsey, on the 16 January 1974. The crew of 18 abandoned ship and all were drowned. The painting shows the super freighter, 'Ellwood [sic] Mead' in the background. The ship was on her maiden voyage and went aground on Christmas Day in 1973. It was eventually salvaged on 24 February 1974.
