Annwen E. Bates pursued undergraduate studies in post-colonial English literature at the University of Cape Town before studying Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Oxford on an Oppenheimer Tuition Scholarship and with Jaftha Trust support. She has taught English in South America and Poland, Art History in the Eastern Cape (South Africa) and worked at Art UK. She also writes poetry as BeadedQuill.
