Sara Ayad is an independent art researcher, working regularly on key projects for some of our foremost art institutions and publishers. From a fine arts background, with time spent in the antiquarian book trade, libraries and publishing (first as editor and then as picture researcher), she has been freelance since 2001.
She is co-author of two histories about books (The British Library, 2014 and 2017) and has researched and written on several artists, including Rose Henriques and Madge Gill. She has an especial interest in early twentieth-century art and literature and a penchant for the so-called 'Outsiders', and mystics. Brueghel's Fall of Icarus, a jewel of a painting (and Auden's poem about it) is one of her all-time favourites.
