Part of a collection of paintings depicting gentlefolk of Leeds with grievous illnesses. This one shows a man with a frightened expression suffering from a rodent (ulcer?) disease of the face. The verso is inscribed 'Cancer of the nose Mr J. Kay', but as he seems to have 'Hutchinson's teeth', a symptom of congenital syphilis, the inscription may be a euphemism.
