This painting depicts a scene from the Battalion's 2009 deployment to Afghanistan. In April 2009 The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (3SCOTS) was deployed to the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. This was 61 years after the 2nd Battalion The Black Watch left Pakistan and the North West Frontier. 3SCOTS was part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operating in support of the Afghan Government and Afghan National Army (ANA).
