The sitter was admitted to Wadham in 1698; Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas in Ireland in 1724 and Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1726 to 1739. He was created 1st Baron Wyndham of Finglass in the County of Dublin in 1731.
