Billy and his weather-beaten brother, Ted (Settler), used to have the primus stove on all the time and there was either a pan of whelks or lobsters boiling or a brew for the countless friends and acquaintances who would drop in for a yarn and a smoke. A commemorative bench was bought in memory of him, his brother and Charlie Brinkley and this now overlooks the estuary and the shingle bar at the mouth of the river Deben.
