Mike Rush, a local artist, created the painting to mark the opening of the new Community Hall at Edderton in the late 1980s.

All village life is depicted here, ancient and modern, from the time of the early Pictish farming settlement some 4,000 years ago. The standing stones and stone circle can still be seen in the fields nearby. Rush takes us through the Celtic and Viking invasions, salmon fishing, harvesting the mussel 'scalps', the founding of Balblair Distillery by John Ross in 1790 and on to the coming of North Sea oil and beyond.

Rush continued to paint and teach painting at Tain Royal Academy until his recent retirement.
