Emmanuel Nove was an emigré from the Ukraine who settled in south Manchester in the mid-1890s. His firm of builders was responsible for several sites in Old Broadway whose features and details owed much to the Arts and Crafts movement in vogue at the time. The development was popular with doctors who were required to live within four miles of Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Nove was President of the Home for Aged, Needy and Incurable Jews and a trustee of the South Manchester Hebrew Congregation in Fallowfield. Emmanuel Nove was the name he adopted on or before naturalisation in 1907; his original Russian name was Manuel Novokove.
