Irish born actress, who graduated from RADA in 1982. Often hailed as one of the finest classical performers in Britain. Her stage appearances are characteristically controversial and powerful, notably her title roles in Richard II, Electra and Medea, all collaborations with director Deborah Warner. Theatre awards include two Laurence Olivier awards for best actress. She also appeared in the film 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. The National Theatre's production of 'London Assurance', in which she starred, was broadcast to cinemas around the country. Shaw made her directorial debut at the English National Opera in 2008 with 'Riders to the Sea'. Victoria Russell, who has exhibited twice in the BP Portrait Awards, trained at St Martins and the Royal Academy.
