This ambitious, complex composition with its historical pageantry is presented in the Pop Art manner of the time, with an equally contemporary concern for hard-edged abstract qualities in a theatrically lit geometric space. This is combined with carefully observed domestic detail set in a playful ambiguity of space. The effect of mystery is enhanced by the offhand title. Llanberis-born Selwyn Jones served with the Royal Navy between 1945 and 1948. He studied at Manchester College of Art and worked as a freelance illustrator in London before taking a teaching post in Caernarfon. From 1960 he lectured in colleges at Rochdale, Newport and finally The Normal College at Bangor where he was Head of the Art Department until retiring in 1982. He participated in many group and mixed art exhibitions including the National Eisteddfod, and held one man shows in North and South Wales.
