Born in Ipswich, Wood went to study art in Italy. At the age of 23 he lived in Putney and exhibited his first work at the Royal Academy. In 1918 Wood was appointed the British Official War Artist for the Balkans. A member of the Pulborough Group, he was recognised primarily for his landscapes and flower paintings. His work was extremely popular during his lifetime.
