The artist says of this work, 'From 1972–1977 I cut up, dyed, painted and washed pieces of canvas, which I then sewed together to make paintings. The process of working was at all times apparent, in fact was part of the content. I used the tactile reality of the material as a means to play against illusionistic space which I created with geometric shapes constricting myself by sewing.' (11 Biennale de Paris, 1980)
