This coaster, of 276 gross register tonnage, was built in Ayr in 1892 for the Dinorwic Quarry Co. of Carnarvon, whose funnel livery she is wearing in this portrait, complete even with the partially overlapping initials 'D' in red and 'Q' in black. Initially she was engaged in carrying the company's products from its own diminutive Port Dinorwic in North Wales to markets on England's and Scotland's east coast, but as the demand for slate declined, she was employed in general trading. In this portrait Bourne shows Dinorwic approaching Aberdeen and features prominently the Girdleness Lighthouse.
