Joan of Navarre landed at Bridport Harbour having sailed from France with a number of refugee Bretons. She was on her way to Winchester where she married Henry IV in the Cathedral.

The scene shows Joan mounted on horseback surrounded by mounted horsemen in armour and courtiers on foot, many holding banners and flags. This group is on the left-hand side of the picture and they face a church, in front of which there is a large group of clergy resplendent in vestments, with an altar boy in the foreground purifying the air with incense. Joan is receiving a blessing. Behind the figures, the wide street, with houses either side, leads away into the distance where another church with spire is seen on the roadside. This is possibly a reference to Winchester Cathedral.
