Jane Simpkiss is the Art Curator at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum. In her role, she oversees the care, interpretation and display of the permanent art collection and develops and manages the Gallery’s temporary art exhibitions. She has curated several exhibitions including ‘Outgrowing: Flowers and Female Artists, 1700–now’, ‘Modern Pre-Raphaelite Visionaries: British Art 1880–1930’ and ‘Modern Mercia: Post-war Art and Design in Coventry and Warwickshire, 1945–1970’. Her research interests are focused on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British and Dutch painting, particularly the depiction of women in art and the role of female artists in this period. She also has a keen interest in twentieth-century studio ceramics.
Before joining Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum, Jane worked at a number of museums undertaking curatorial research, including Dulwich Picture Gallery, Royal Museums Greenwich and the Royal Collection Trust.
