The paintings are housed in the Guildhall, which currently functions as the Crown Court and Magistrates Court in Carmarthen. Carmarthen Guildhall was built during the 1770s and has been in use as a court since then. It has seen many historic trials, such as that of Rebecca Rioters. All but one of this small group of paintings were commissioned specifically with a view to their display in this civic building. The two most important paintings are the portrait of General Sir Thomas Picton by Sir Martin Archer Shee and the portrait of General Sir William Nott by Thomas Brigstocke.
