The Charlbury Museum was established in 1949 and opened on its present site in 1962. A small independent museum run entirely by volunteers; its five rooms are crammed with exhibits revealing the history of the town. Contents include a blacksmith's forge, glove-making tools, a penny-farthing bicycle, watchmaker's tools, old shop and inn signs, farm tools and, from October 2019, our newly restored Oxfordshire Bow Wagon. We hold a large collection of photographs of Charlbury, also an extensive archive of documents and maps which can be used to trace the histories of local properties and families.
We also have several paintings and prints of local scenes. The Corner House, of which the museum is a part, is owned by the town and provides a space for community activities. The painting entitled 'The Corner House' is in that part of the building and all other works are in the museum itself.
