The Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre looks after a small collection of paintings and prints which complements its archival holdings. The collecting focus is geographical, taking in the islands of Skye and Raasay and the neighbouring mainland parishes of Lochalsh, Kintail and Glenshiel. The collection is especially strong on nineteenth-century topographical prints, although portraits of some historic local figures have also been added in recent years.

The art collection was established by Dualchas (Skye and Lochalsh District Council’s Area Museums Service) in the late 1980s and has since been increased by a combination of purchases and donations. The Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre is fortunate to have inherited this fine collection when it took over from Dualchas in 2009. Significant paintings include portraits of the Gaelic poets Màiri Mhòr nan Òran (1821–1898) and Sorley Maclean (1911–1996) by Fred Schley and a modern take on Bonnie Prince Charlie by Roy Petrie.

The collection and facilities at this location are managed by High Life Highland on behalf of Highland Council.
