More about

Unst Heritage Centre’s first venue in 1986 was an old shop, and then in 1997 the old school in Haroldswick became available giving larger premises. Bearing in mind Unst’s special position as the northernmost outpost of the UK, the centre has a display about the lighthouse at Muckle Flugga, and a range of interpretive displays about geology, crofting, fine lace knitwear, the Shelties, etc.

One could hardly say that Unst Heritage Centre has a collection of paintings; rather, as part of the process of gathering information and artefacts relating to Unst’s story, we were gifted two paintings. The paintings portray Reverend Dr James Ingram and his wife who were very much part of Unst’s story during the 1800s and left a legacy from their many years of service to the island and its people.
