'Flobe', a contraction of 'flow' and 'lobe', is a formal construction, the thinly applied paint giving the work a feeling of constraint, despite the vividness of its crimson, green and yellow colour scheme. Robert Hughes wrote of Gadsby's work: "...you read these paintings, not as solid forms, but as metaphors of light energy. They generate a strong illusion of warped space."
This work was included in 'The New Generation' exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1966.
